About Me

Hello! My name is James Rose and I am the 7th-12th grade music teacher at West Bronx Academy. In our class students focus on learning to play instruments solo and together, creating music with technology, listening and describing music, and understanding how music is important in our community and society. At West Bronx we have an all grade choir, a beginner brass band, and small pop groups that accompany students at our annual talent show, art show and other school wide performances. These ensemble are offered before school, during lunch, or after school. 10th-12th grade students have the opportunity to join our campus wide band taught by Mr. LaTona

In addition to teaching I am an active musician in New York City, playing trumpet in various funk, soul, and brass bands throughout the area . I also enjoy writing and recording my own music as well as walking my 2 dogs, Ella and Murray.

I graduated from Ithaca College in 2013 with a degree in Music Education and Trumpet Performance. After a brief time as a substitute teacher I began working at WBA the fall of 2015. Over the last 5 years I have worked to build our music program through partnerships with Little Kids Rock as well as fundraisers through Donors Choose. Together we have built our inventory to have over 50 instruments available to our students. I am currently in my 2nd year at Hunter College pursuing a Masters in Jazz Studies. If you have any questions about music, lessons, ensembles, or anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out!
